Notes:
Stormwater ponds are practices that have a combination of a permanent pool, extended detention, or shallow marsh equivalent to the entire water quality volume. Ponds treat incoming stormwater runoff by settling and algal uptake. The primary removal mechanism is settling as stormwater runoff resides in the pool, and pollutant uptake, particularly of nutrients, also occurs through biological activity in the pond. Design variations on ponds include: micropool extended detention ponds, wet ponds, wet extended detention ponds, multiple ponds, and pocket ponds. Most pond designs can provide water quality, channel protection, overbank flood, and extreme flood control. However, due to the tendency of pond bottoms to seal with sediment deposits, they do not typically meet recharge requirements.
