In many cases, however, it is not possible to maintain the necessary geometry and elevations to locate the diversion structure within the treatment practice itself. Therefore, an alternative technique for diversion within the drainage network should be utilized. Typically, this involves a flow splitter, as in this slide, located in a manhole upstream of the practice.
As stormwater enters the structure, flow from storms equal to or smaller than the water quality storm are diverted to the pretreatment chamber of the filtering practice, and larger flows pass over the are conveyed downstream.
