Slide 18 of 52
Notes:
This slide shows a schematic of an organic filter in profile, plan, and section. A flow splitter diverts runoff into a pretreatment chamber, and then into a series of filter cells. Each filter bed contains an 18 inch layer of compost or peat, followed by filter fabric, and six inches of perforated pipe and gravel. Runoff filters through the organic medium and is then collected by a perforated pipe and directed toward the outlet. In most organic filters, the filter bed and subsoils are separated by an impermeable polyliner that prevents movement into groundwater.
