Notes:
Assessment of local development rules using the codes and ordinance worksheet is one of the best ways for communities to determine how the 22 model development principles would apply. Not all of the principles will apply to every community and achieving one principle may require foregoing another. It is important to remember that while these principles are not national design standards, they identify areas where existing codes and standards can be changed to better protect streams, lakes and wetlands. Used in conjunction with the other tools of watershed protection, it can significantly help reduce the amount of impervious cover created and the corresponding impacts to receiving waters.
