Notes:
Better Site Design refers to techniques to reduce the impact of site development. Urban development is often characterized by large amounts of impervious cover. Wide streets, huge cul de sacs, long driveways, and sidewalks that line both sides of the street are all features of site design that create impervious cover and consume natural areas. Many innovative site planning techniques have been shown to sharply reduce the impact of new development. Developers, however, are often unable to use these techniques in many communities because of outdated local zoning, parking or subdivision codes.
